We’ll Take Care of You, So You Can Take Care of Baby

How to Decide if a Doula is Right for You
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to pregnant individuals, their partners, and their families before, during, and after childbirth. Evidence-based research in modern America highlights the numerous benefits of having a doula. Studies show that individuals supported by a doula experience a shorter labor, are less likely to require medical interventions such as epidurals, cesarean births, or forceps-assisted delivery, and report higher satisfaction with their birth. A doula will provide continuity of care during and after your birth journey; unlike doctors, nurses, or other members of the care team, a doula is not subject to shift changes during labor and delivery.
Continuous doula support has been linked to a reduction in overall birth complications and improved outcomes for both parent and baby. If you are looking for an advocate who prioritizes your comfort, birth preferences, and emotional well-being, a doula may be the perfect addition to your birth team. Whether you’re planning a home birth, a hospital birth, or exploring options in between, a doula can help you create a birth plan and feel confident, calm, and prepared for this transformative life experience.
In Texas, most insurance agencies, including Medicaid, will provide reimbursement for birthing support from a DONA International accredited doula. Check with your provider to see if you are eligible for coverage.
